AROD Authenticity?
We had one of our readers ask about the AROD Authenticity and holograms that are out there.
Supposedly, AROD split with AROD Authenticated. According to an article by Mike Fitzpatrick on April 29, 2005 Alex Rodriguez said, "From this point forward," Rodriguez said, "there is no Arod Authenticated."
You can read the article here:

AROD claims that the company was selling baseballs without his permission.
Does anyone know anything about this?
30 Comments:
Arod was selling autographs for a while - and good ones - actually the best I've ever seen...even full signatures for A-ROD Authenticated. He broke contact with them when they produced a limited 3HR/10RBI baseball without his permission. He caught some flak and ended the relationship. There apparently was still a large surplus of autographs, becasue I see them all over Ebay - mostly from a compnay called Elite Sports Marketing out of Clearwater Florida...interesting note: Clearwater was also the home of A-Rod Authenticated. BTW, I just bought an auto A_ROD baseball and it looks great!
The above statement is exactly correct. Arod signed a ton of stuff for Elite, who created the seperate company to make Arod exclusive. The only Arod authenticated item to be aware of is ANYTHING THAT IS AROD/JETER DUAL SIGNED. The Arod signature is authentic, but the Jeter signature 9 times out of 10 is fake. Arod just signed pre-signed Jeter "junk" and added his hologram. I own several Arod authenticated pieces all awsome!
watchout for elite sports!they have 1000's of so called game used items which are very questionable.every player you could imagine who is under a contract with someone else
CHECK OUT THIS VERY QUESTIONABLE ALBERT POLJOS BAT ON EBAY,GUYS ALSO GOT A MINI WITH COAS FROM ANOTHER UNHEARD OF COMPANY

LET ME KNOW YOUR OPINION AS IM NOT A STONE COLD EXPERT
!!ELITE SPORTS!! Interesting post, I have purchased a bunch of items from Elite, and they do seem to have an amazing amount of G/U items, as well as AROD product. Anyone else care to comment on Elite?? Wondering what other people are thinking???...
i just dont understand how elite sports has more game used yankees items then steiner sports who probaly paid a insane amount for the exclusive rights of yankees game used items.however i confronted elite about this and there replied via email was
"listen here mr smartman,we are given all of our yankees stuff direct from the athletes and any steiner contract doesnt prevent athletes from giving us stuff"
so after that being said how did they get all the derek jeter gamers?????let me guess at a steiner signing directly in front of there exclusive agent derek goes out to his car grabs some bats and cleats and gives them to elite????in front of steiner whos sells that kinda of stuff for 1000-2500 a pop but elite lets them slide for just a few bills
come on dont be a idiot!!anybody can take a jersey out side and slide on the ground.this is the best and only way to prove gameused items.have the athlete sign it and as inscb right"game used" or "gamer" until i see that i trust nothing those guys from elite sell
another thing about elite is there so shady if you call them and ask for a certain player they will have game used items for them!ANY player off the wall.
But as far as the A-Rod autographs, they are legit. Like alot of frauds though, they might sell some legit items to make you think that everything in thier store is real.
excatly!i have read serval of these posts and heard some alarming comments from different people even the host of the blog about its either all real or all fake.totaly untrue, ive seen many sellers on ebay or at shows mixing in the garbage with the real stuff.
its really sad you guy are just plain dumb!why would you pay anybody for there autograph?a athlete that makes millions like jeter and then buy a ball for 400 bucks that he signed.without the fan these guys wouldnt have shit so dont you think autographs should be free.can i mail my baseball to jeter and he signs it for me or do i get it retruned with a seitner catolog???and these companys that have stores that sell autographs??what is that?you do these pubilc signing events and charge boatloads of lot whcih the average american cant afford.i was at a mall one time with my son and saw a jeter was doing a signing and i got in line without knowing there was a ticket to be bought.got to the front of the line and they asked us to step out because we didntr buy a ticket so i said what the heck how much they said 300 for balls.i would pay elvis 300 bucks to sign something for me but they wouldnt even let my 10 yearold son shake jeters hand after waiting in line for allmost 1 hour.you people have ruined the fun, game and its allways about the dollar isnt it.some lazy guy sitting around comes up with this idea and boom theres ebay private signings public shows and whats left in the end a little kid that doesnt get to meet his hero because his dad is a real man and works hard for every buck he gets unlike these 500 basketballs for on this website.
the working man
ESM (Elite Sports Marketing)? You must be kidding. I wouldn't aceept a free autograph item from them. Ever notice that whenever a player reaches a certain "status" in the major leagues, all of a sudden a ton of ESM autograph items show up on all the auction sites.
All these comments about ESM are very interesting. It is amazing the amount of ESM stuff on the market, but I have been collecting for years, and I believe I am above the average collector in ability to distinguish the fakes from the real sigs, and I can say I have never seen an item from ESM that appeared to be a fake to me. Now again, I have nothing to do with ESM, and honestly don’t trust them myself, but does anyone have an example, or photo of an ESM item that is a clear fake, or very questionable??? I am really interesting in ESM and want to figure out what’s going on with that company, please keep the posts coming in regards to ESM. Thanks.
i think you guys got the wrong idea about elite sports!its not the signatures in question, its there gigtantic so called game used items they have!they have game used items from all the top atheltes in sports most of which are under strict exclusive contacts with memorabilia comapnys that might also be selling there athletes game used prioducts."gamers" are very hard to obtain esp from the best of the best!many promoters often spend years devloping realtionships with athletes and later one day will try to obtain the gamers directly.call elite sports and ask about there derek jeter game used cleats, bats, jerseys and balls.steiner has botht eh yankees organzation and derek jeter under contracts.i dont give a shit who you know you arent getting a boat load of his stuff.any star you want they got it game used.some nobody breaks out and has a monster game next week elite has gamers for sale.see most of there sig;s look fine that ive seen its the gamers and the sad thing is they pay the athletes to sign them but the athlete doesnt know that elite is going to call them game used.thats the kind of stuff that will promte a athlete to sue a memorabilia company.kinda like what arod authentic did.do something shady behind a millioares back and one day it will hit you hard
Hey Working Man -
We all work hard for our money, so we have the right to spend it the way we want. I collect baseball memorabilia, and it costs a ton of money...but it keeps me from going postal. Pro athletes are paid money to be public figures and perform at the highest level they are capable of.They are not paid to sign autographs by thier teams as much as you would like to think it. There are plenty of guys who ignore little kids with pens at a baseball game. The reason most athletes don't sign is becasue they know that there are fans who sell thim immediately. McGwire is like that...no sweet spot on baseballs. Memorabilia is an industry these days - and with industry comes knockoffs and fakes. That is why some athletes sign at shows. A. They can make money B. The fans get to meet the player and watch him/her sign an auto in front of them C. The player can sign extra for a site like Allauthentic.com who can then turn a profit while being able to offer thier customers an authentic autograph. Sure, a consumer might pay $300 for a Jeter ball, but at least they know it is real. Plenty of folks have worthless heirlooms sitting in display cases (and behind the counter of some hobby shops)that they bought, thinking they were real - but were actually signed by a clubhouse attendant. Ebay makes things even more complex by allowing people to sell clear fakes on thier site. If Ebay cared, they would hire an authentication company to scan over everything not accompanied with a Steiner, UDA, etc. hologram. They make TONS of money from fakes their members sell, so why not put their money where their mouth is??? Anyway, as far as the legitimacy of ELITE, I can only say that the AROD ball sitting in my safe is authentic and I went as far as to quick option it via PSA just to be extra sure. The gamers are a little questionable...I might not buy a set of Jeter cleats, but someone else might...after all, people who do not collect memorabilia won't really care if it is genuine or not, they just want something to impress thier freinds who won't question it either.
It's amazing the number of legitimate unsold authentic autograph items that are on the auction sites, but yet garbage like this one (Item Number 230022783949 on Ebay )a fake Derek Jeter autographed bat that sold for $242.50 get purchased by wannabe collectors. I find it totally incredible that anyone would bid on fake autograph items like that. That particular item has a COA from Platinum Sports and anything with a COA from Platinum Sports is a fake. The seller of the aforementioned items sells all fakes. Check out this item (130025655122). Incredible!
Great find, those 2 Jeter fakes are horrible... kind of feel bad for the idiots who bought them, at the same time, it's amazing they fall for these tricks... is platimum sports just an ebay seller? Cant believe they are still selling on ebay, guess ebay doesnt care, they are still making money...
Check out this really bad Alex Rodriguez autographed baseball: Item Number 200025769201. Not to mention, the seller can't even spell Alex's last name correctly.
I see Platinum Sports COA's from a few different sellers...most Minahsports - who I have had some nasty email wars with over a McGwire ball and a Koufax ball. You are right though, there are plenty of REAL sigs out there that no one will touch because of idiots who sell fake autos making people paranoid. All we can do is email thier customers and as nicely as possible tell them that they are being ripped off...If they will listen. I had a guy tell me last week that I wasn't an expert and I should mind my own business...I then watched as he purhcased a POOR, unauthenticated Pujols card (someone actually signed a real jersey card with Pujols name) for $25.00. Minahsports again. Sad.
Nowadays, one is lucky to get an autograph at a baseball game by a top player. I just turned 18 and I already noticed a difference with some of the players when I go to games. It seems as though they are ignoring little kids because parents use their kids to get autographs for them to sell and in exchange the parent gives them an incentive. I went to a game once at Safeco Field when the Mariners were playing the Yankees. This guy had his 4-5 year old girl dressed in Yankee clothes. I stood next to him. We were lucky enough to be in the spot where Jeter came over. He signed our balls. The most astonishing thing I have ever heard relating to sports memorabilia came out of the guys mouth. After Jeter signed the girls ball and went down the line, the father said to his girl, "Hey Sweetie, you got Jeters autograph. Now you can trade me that for an ice cream. How does that sound?" And believe it or not, she agreed and was happy. It was so disgusting. I can see why players are sketchy when it comes to signing because of what that guy did. The only sport I can get an autograph in whenever I want is when I go to tennis tournaments. Sure Federer and Roddick are popular, but they sign a lot and are good with the fans, although if you get in their face, they run off. Has anyone else seen problems with parents using their kids to get autographs?
I really hate to sound like an a-hole, but sports memorabilia is a way for an athlete to market themselves to the fans, whether or not they are a true collector or just a fan of the player. You guys need to realize that it is a business before anything else and not hate these guys for not signing or having memorabilia deals...If you were in their shoes you would be doing the same thing, I guarantee it...
Yep. I have a million cut signatures (all 10's) on standby.
Check out the fake autograph items by the following sellers: sdnsports, alwayz_rackin05, jmb_authentics, and jfgauctions. Took me just five minutes to find items from sellers selling fake autograph items. The situation is only getting worse.
Check out this ridiculous fake Jeter autograph (Item Number 120030133019). The seller of that item has been selling quite a few Derek Jeter fake autograph items.
Here is another fake autograph item (Michael Jordan autographed basketball) with a COA from Platinum Sports. Definitely fake. The Item Number is 230024351412.
I just stumbled across this site and I LOVE IT! Being a police officer, I've dabbled in handwriting analysis for a few years.
With that in mind, I felt compelled to write the following:
ESM....Well this may seem a little strange but I'll give it a try. How does ESM get autographs from a "so-so" player that all of a sudden had a really good game and became "somebody". Simple, they've worked up a really good base of players and it's simple for them to contract that "so-so" player since they have a large base of popular players.
How does ESM have numerous sets of game used equipment for one player? I am fortunate enough to be friends with a ball player, a wonderful Christian man who played in my home state, Jamey Carroll. Now he's not a "super star" but he's one of the best utility players around (ok my opinion may be a little biased). Either way he's an insider to the baseball market world. Most players go through batting gloves weekly, as well as other equipment, after a few months they take that bag, autograph the pieces and ship it to ESM. Some players actually have sitdowns with a ESM rep and sign it in front of them.
I have purchased memorbillia for numerous years and I've been duped a time or two. So when ESM came on the market with fair prices, I questioned it. I went as far as calling them and asking them a question or two or three (probably 100 but you get the point) They answered all my questions and then some. I have to say that when they answered, it made sense. Now with that said, I don't work for them and I don't buy from them exclusively but I have found that the pieces I have bought from them to be genuine.
As far as the Arod Authenticated. They were a "sub" company of ESM that was created to market all ARod. I'm pretty sure we all know why there is new ARod Authenicated anymore but, I'm sure they have boxes and boxes of equipment and autographs from the years passed.
Well, that's my 2 cents and I look forward to learning more from this site. Sorry for the typos and such, I work the late night and when I'm off work, I have to leave the lights off to keep the wifey sleeping soundly ;-) Whatever you guys do, KEEP THIS PLACE ALIVE AND KICKING! That means you Chris (man your fingers must hurt!) You all are the reason I haven't quit collecting.
Many Thanks,
Devin 552
Main1512 is also selling fakes and has certified from 'Grey Flannel Gallery' which just happens to be his ebay store. Check out his Cano balls. Not close. I was looking at the following to find that the JSA number was not in thier database. Stay clear
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=180067775251&ssPageName=MERC_VIC_RUPX_BID_Stores_IT&refitem=180061603351&itemcount=4&refwidgetloc=closed_view_item&usedrule1=UpSell_LogicX&refwidgettype=cross_promot_widget
A little more research, maybe I was wrong about Grey Flannel? Just seemed a few of the auto's are a bit off.
A little help here, if you can. Does AROD Authentics have a database that you can enter the hologram number on, to find out if that holo matches the item?
Hello we checked to try to find his site and all we could find is this one http://www.mlb.com/NASApp/mlb/players/rodriguez_alex/index.jsp and we couldn't find any database lookup tool...
just wondering, how is it possible that there is a signed alex rodriguez baseball on a yankee anniversary 100 year baseball, 1903-2003, and even inscriped youngest to 500(when that feat took place in 2006). with a arod authenticated card when he is not with this company anymore. its being sold on ebay. was this ball signed legit in 2003 and altered with youngest to 500 in 2006?
just wondering, is this possible. theres an arod ball being sold on ebay, he signed on a yankee 100 anniversary baseball(1903-2003). also inscribed on the ball is youngest to 500, (that feat took place in 2006). it comes with an arod authenticated card. which he no longer has a relationship with. is his autograph on the ball legit, but youngest to 500 altered.
