Alex Rodriguez Signed Base AROD Authenticated
This question was submitted by one of our readers who has an Alex Rodriguez signed 2004 Houston All-Star game base. The COA is from AROD Authenticated with a matching sticker on the back of the base. Our reader noticed that the hologram sticker on the back of the base seemed to be placed on another hologram.
To us, this item looks pretty legitimate, comes with a COA from AROD Authenticated and all matching holograms. I know there were some earlier posts regarding AROD Authenticated and how they actually parted ways with AROD some time ago.
Does anyone have any opinions on this?

Looks legit to me - as far as the signature. A-Rod Inc. was a division of Elite...that he disbanded because of some shadiness on the part of the company (do an internet search). I would bet that this item would pass PSA.
i think it looks good. the sticker on the sticker is a little on the shady side.. i would be tempted to peel it off and see whats underneathe
Yeah, the only thing I can think of is that The item was purchased from another source and A-Rod Auth. Put a hologram over it because the other company didn't have the name recognition. A-Rod was notorious for purchasing items from other companies (Like things with other athletes signatures already on them...and adding the A-Rod sig. I have seen a few Jeter/A-Rod balls that looked like the Jeter sig was a fake. If you go back in the archives here, you can find them.
i remember reading about arod auth. buying already signed items and puting their sticker on them. that's a big risk backing up a signature that you didn't witness.
bigtruck, i wanted to ask you something. i have the opportunity to pick up a pujols signed ball that was signed in person, and i was wondering what the characteristics are of his "in person" signature vs his "albert pujols foundation store signature"
if i remember correctly, he is one of those players that has a diff signature they use for a freebie when a fan gets them to sign in public or at a game.
if i can, i will try to get a picture of the ball on my camera phone to get posted on here to get your opinion.
thanks!
-j-man
His paid signature is very loopy and flows very nicely. AN example of his stadium and "other" sig can be seen at item #

Ebay seller "baseball4life2006" just listed more fake autographed baseballs. Again, his items have never passed "Quick Opinion" but Ebay allows him to continue to sell.
bigtruck, that number doesnt work. is it the pointier signature?
Sorry J-Man, try this one...it is a pretty good example of what you would get in STL at the ballpark (actually, a little better.) The only letters you can make out are the A, th P, J and S.

The below "Quick Opinion" result is an autograph item being offered on Ebay from seller "Magic-Moments!" who claims they got the below Albert Pujols autographed bat in person. I don't think so. It is an obvious forgery.

The below "Quick Opinion" result is of an autograph item being offered from Ebay seller "baseball4life2006" who is known here for his sales of forgeries on Ebay. This is the fourth autograph item of his that has failed "Quick Opinion" and yet Ebay allows him to continue selling his forgeries.

Chris - I want to commend you again for actually using PROOF to dispute the claims of these sellers. PSA might get it wrong occasionally, but in these cases (such as the Pujols Bat from MagicMoments) they are horrible.
As always, we appreciate your dedication to the hobby. Hopefully, some people will be persuaded to stay away from the fakes...but as far as I can tell, fakes are still abundant, and folks are still buying them instead of the more expensive, authentic signatures.
Thank you, Bigtruck, and for your contributions, too. From what I can see on Ebay and at the Coaches Corner auction site, the selling of fake autograph items is as bad as it was last yar, maybe worse. Check out Lot Numbers 260, 185, 99 and 632 from the Coaches Corner auction site (www.myccsa.com).
As for Ebay Seller "Magic-Moments!," they claim to be a "Collectibles Store." Whether they are a store-front or not I do not know. But they were attempting to sell a Albert Pujols forged autograph bat on Ebay. It was an obvious fake. They claimed to have gotten the autograph in person, which means that they knew exactly what they were trying to sell. Shame on them!
And why does Ebay continue to allow sellers like "dqbean252," "baseball4life2006" and "savant01 (just to name a few)" to continue to sell fake autograph items after I have proven time and time again that they sell all forgeries? Ebay seller "Tokenofmemories" who was caught by me selling fake autographed team-signed items, is being allowed by Ebay to now sell very questionable autographed guitars of Keith Richards and others. What gives here, Ebay? it's all about fees, commissions, money, etc. Remember, selling fraudulent items is a crime and some people and companies are profiting from the sales of those fraudulent items. Shame on all of them.
By the way, check out Ebay Item Number 120119158509 from seller "Tokenofmemories." Compare the two photographs. Two different guitars and Keith is signing a guitar in a different spot in the second photograph. Let's see if Ebay does anything about it.
Great news here! Ex-Ebay seller "Tokenofmemories" is now "No Longer A Registered User" on Ebay. They, of course, sold many fake team-signed football helmets, and other fake autographed items. Just recently they attempted to sell fake autographed guitars of Keith Richards, Jimmy Buffet, etc. Ebay removed those fakes immediately after my report to them. The unfortunate thing is that before they were removed they did sell thousands in fake autograph items.
I've been reading all of the information here for a while, and really enjoy the discussion and information. I wasn't sure how to start a new topic, but I was wondering if anyone had an opinion or some feedback regarding Richard Bond... He worked for Lelands for a few years as an authenticator, and won the psa contest for authenticating at the National show. I've seen him at a couple of shows in the Northeast, and he really has some great, and very unique stuff. He sometimes sells on e-bay too. I was just wondering what people thought...since he has a couple of items I am very interested in, but have never seen before. I've been collecting autographs for 20+ years and think I am very knowlegable in the autograph arena. Any information is appreciated. Thanks.
I see Ebay seller "Savant01," known for his fake autograph auctions, has taken a page from the book of seller "Fansindastands" by listing his auctions on Saturday and as 1-Day auctions to avoid detection by Ebay. Why does Ebay allow seller "Savant01" to continue selling his fakes? I have proven in the past many times via "Quick Opinion" that his items are fake.
Below is a "Quick Opinion" result of an item from Ebay seller "Savant01." All he sells is fake autograph items.

bigtruck, thanks for the example.. i turned down the ball because it looked like the signature that i've seen on alberts website items. and for the price, i'd rather spend a few more bucks and order from the pujols family foundation, so the money atleast goes to the right cause.
i recently emailed the seller of phillies team signed items that are horrendous fakes, and called him out on his items being fakes, and this is the response i was given...
"i dont understand what your problem is, i have the pictures to prove i was at spring training getting these autos, i have some of the nicer items off to gai and jsa for authentication - i even got my howard balls back from jsa already all passed - i dont know who you are and have never dealt with you and i dont understand your problem with me"
so he has pictures to prove he was at spring training? i have pictures to priove i was at many sporting events, however that doesnt mean i had items signed. he would be more believable if the signatures on his items looked like the athletes real signatures. but ebay doesnt care... every day i email them about his fake autograph items, and every day, no action is taken. i have even had quick opinion reports come back likely not genuine, and nothing was done.
J-Man, I feel your pain. I have seen more fakes than ever this year that were describes as spring training autos...rarely are they good.
Why is it that when we question these people about their mecrh., they turn it around on us - like we are the frauds?
Also, J-man, Albert's site has been sold out of items for a while now...actually, if you go there, they have a link that takes you directly to Upper Deck. Get ready to clean out your savings...what's up w/ that???
Hey, Bigtruck and J-Man, it really is ashame that we are more targeted than the "bad guys on Ebay." Here we are, trying to help collectors, by spending our time and money, to expose those that sell forged autograph items. Selling forged autographed items is fraud, and fraud is a crime, as we all know. Ebay is a bees nest of fraudulent activity. In other words, crime and illegal activities. Ebay would rather see us go away as opposed to the "bad sellers" on Ebay and to me that is a "crime" in itself.
Well, Ebay has done it again. They've allowed seller "ans_autographs" to continue selling his forged autograph items. I've proven to Ebay time and time again (via Quick Opinion and other reports) that seller "ans_autographs" is selling fake autograph and yet Ebay allows him to sell his fraudulent items. Whay gives, Ebay? Money and fees?
You guys should check out the obvious fake autograph items from Ebay Seller "roadtrn." Check out these Ebay Item Numbers and have a good laugh: 250119406819, 250119402349, 250119405086, 250119415079, 250119397315, 250119403416 and 250119429023. The baseballs were obviously forged by the same person. These are really horrible-looking fake autographs. It's hard to believe thhat anyone would bid on that garbage. Shame on Ebay seller "Roadtrn" and Ebay for allowing him to sell.
you people praise PSA like they are gods..... I still am a GAI fan, but maybe ebay and you people on this board will change your stance after you know what fraud goes on with PSA;
http://www.thebrillreport.com/2007/05/13/index.html
KB, no one here, including myself, heaps praise on PSA. We are all aware of the problems PSA has had in the past. I use "Quick Opinion" so that I have documented evidence in case I need it in the future. The autograph auctions that I submit to "Quick Opinion" are items that I know are forgeries but I need the hard-copy evidence to protect myself in the future. I am a contributor to "The Brill Report" and I've read the "Bill Daniels" issue with MastroNet and PSA. As for GAI, if you were to see some of the Derek Jeter autograph items they've authenticated in the past that were obvious fakes you would be shocked. Since they know I now check on stuff like that they've been a bit more careful. I will have more to write about this later.
check out the signed items on ebay from "canon109"
they are not fake. no, not at all.
it was sarcasm, by the way
KB - PSA is not the be all to end all in this business. IF an item fails PSA quick opinion, eBay removes it - generally.
Spence is better...they spend more time with the items they get, and are more about reputation than mass profit.
I have seen things come out of GAI that are so obviously forged, that it's almost like they allow dealers to pay them to let things slide...IF that happens.
Personally, if it is an item that I am interested in, I can almost always discern fake from real. on eBay, at least 70-80% is fake.
Okay guys, check out Ebay Item Number 190117643006 from Ebay Seller "Yeahandstuff." It is a similar fake to the one that Coaches Corner sold awhile back with the same COA from "Phat Graphs." Again, even after I filed a report with Ebay, and although it is an obvious forgery, Ebay does nothing about. Forgery is fraud. Fraud is a crime. With all the forgeries being sold on Ebay on a daily basis, what does that tell you? Thank about it.
Look at Ebay Item Number 200113628400 sold by Ebay Seller "Drchinesebombo." It is another obvious forgery that I complained about to Ebay but to no avail. Once again they've made a profit on the sale of fake autograph item. This junk sold for $88.68. Shame on both Ebay and Ebay Seller "Drchinesebombo."
The below "Quick Opinion" result is of an item being sold by Ebay Seller "Yeahandstuff." It was Ebay item Number 190117643006. That item was a horrible forgery of a Derek Jeter autographed baseball with a COA from "Phat Graphs." Now here's what's really incredible!!! The seller (Yeahandstuff) relisted the same forgery under Ebay Item Number 190118707085! That's how screwed up Ebay is! Why didn't they flag this seller? Why was he able to relist a fraudulent autograph item without it being flagged? Below is the "Quick Opinion" result from the first listing of this forgery by Ebay Seller "Yeahandstuff."
