While sports memorabilia in general has has a decreasing trend since 2004, autographed sports memorabilia still increases in value every year — depending on who signed and authenticated it.

There is still a lot of fraud in the sports memorabilia marketplace, especially on eBay. Legitimate vendors have tried to curb this for a long time but it is a tough battle. Baseball memorabilia remains one of the most popular Google searches, followed by football memorabilia.

Sports memorabilia stores in the US have gradually decreased, due to the amount of Internet sales that take place. Signed sports memorabilia has probably retained its value so well because of the fact that autographs are limited and scarce — when an athlete or celebrity dies, you can’t get their autograph anymore, it is basic supply and demand economics.

That’s why it is still a good investment to purchase autographed memorabilia, just make sure you get an authentic autograph.

Sports memorabilia framing has also increased in popularity. Even in a struggling economy, jersey framing sales have still maintained and in some cases have increased. Hold on until our economy comes back and then sell it if you want — authentic sports memorabilia will always go up in value as time goes by, especially if it is authentic.
